Hunting in Russia – Perm

Perm – a Russian province east of the Urals. This area can be found on the map West of the Ural Mountains. Perm still belongs to the European continent. The huntable game in this region includes the brown bear, moose, wild boar in the south capercaile, black grouse, wolf and lynx. If you are interested in hunting the moose you will find very good opportunities here. The terrain is flat and slightly hilly closer to the Ural Mountains you will encounter a mountainous landscape, crossed by many lakes, rivers and streams, heavily forested with many swamps and boggy places.

Main tree species are birch, alder, many other softwoods as well as spruce and pine. You do not hunt in a commercial forest, but in original nature. The moose with a shoulder height of over 2 m and live weights, which are in the strong moose deer beyond the 600 kg. There are only a few countries in Europe where you can successfully hunt moose, Russia is one of them. The Russians not only have centuries of experience in hunting moose and brown bear, they have also passed strict game protection laws. As a result, poaching has noticeably declined.

Moose

The type of moose which occurs in Perm is still one of the European species. The trophy strength is up to 10 kg to 20 kg shovels and can be compared indirect with the moose in B.C in Canada. Traditionally, the Russian is a stalker, High seat is not known in this region (apart from hunting for brown bears). In the area we drive with boats and all-terrain vehicles. Stalking is the most promising type of hunting, as you have to travel a lot in these huge areas. But it is also needed to reach the places where one has confirmed rutting points in the past. Then the professional hunters will use the moose call, which is very effective in luring a moose bull out of cover.

If a shootable moose bull is confirmed, you will stalk to get close to the bull in a range of about 150 m to get a shot. Moose are not considered bulletproof, but you should choose a caliber in the upper performance range. Cartridges such as 8 x 68 S, 9.3 x 62 or 64 as well as all calibers of the. 300 group (Winchester, Remington, Weatherby, Pega-sus) are ideally suited. But also with our native game calibres like .30-06, 7 x 64 or .308 Winchester the skilled shooter gets along well on moose.

Brown bear

Russia has the highest brown bear population in the world. The hunt for the bear takes place at the beginning of September. When the oats are ripe, the bears from the endless forests of the taiga pull to the fields to feed themselves enough feist for the upcoming hibernation. The hunter makes use of this circumstance and sits in good wind on promising fields. Where, decide the local guide, because on the one hand the brown bears should not be disturbed by fresh footprints, on the other hand, a residence is only worthwhile if the fields have been accepted.

The success rate is extremely high. If you behave quietly at the high seat, you can be sure that you drive home with a bear trophy. There are bears with weights of 160 kg, but also with over 200 kg. Under no circumstances should one compare the bears from this region with the giants like Kamchatka. These hunts are also considerably more expensive.
